Fabulous exchange between football coach and player on the sidelines by Joseph Mirachi, reflecting his love for all things sports. This piece occupied a half-page in the New Yorker's October 5, 1963 issue.
The full extent of Mirachi's craftmanship is on display here, with generous use of ink wash and white-out. Signed by the artist in the lower right corner. This piece came into our hands matted so the piece is fairly large, 16" x 20" including the mat, and 12" x 16" measured along the inside perimeter.
Ink, and ink wash on watercolor paper with some discoloration consistent with age. The lower right corner of the mat and drawing is moderately creased but does not distract from the overall image. The reverse side contains what appears to be a very rough draft of the cartoon, with a few stamps of the artist's name.
Overall, a beautiful piece in very good condition, and a great gift for football fans.
