In his lifetime, James Stevenson (1929-2017), published nearly 2,000 cartoons in the New Yorker, including this wonderful commentary on the youthfulness of the elderly which appeared in its August 8, 1964 issue. Ink and diluted ink washes on large-scale (18" x 24") paper. The typed caption ("Fred Trafton is coping with his sunset years in mighty spunky fashion") is affixed to a matting loosely secured to the original drawing. Unknown paper type and unknown marking on reverse side as drawing is secured to a cardboard backing. Very good condition.
