In this charming gag cartoon by Mort Gerberg, a politician expresses his thanks with a hand-written note. Mort's humor has been a staple of the New Yorker and other magazines for more than five decades.
This piece was published in the New Yorker on April 3, 2000 with the caption, "Dear J.J.: Thank you so much for your lovely present of fourteen million dollars for my campaign. It was sweet of you to remember. I promise to spend it on something nice."
Ink, pencil, and white-out on 11" x 14" heavy card stock. An abbreviated reference to the caption appears in the artist's hand along the foot of the page, along with the notation "New Yorker" in the lower left corner. Excellent condition.
