A Packed House

A masterful work by renowned artist Barry Blitt, published on the cover of the New Yorker's August 24, 2020 issue.  The piece features an opera singer belting out musical notes to a house packed with cardboard cut-out attendees -- a nod to the struggles and innovations of sports arenas during the height of the Covid pandemic.

Barry Blitt has contributed more than a hundred covers to The New Yorker.  In 2020, he won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning for work that included several covers for the magazine, as well as an array of cartoons that appeared in its pages and on its website.

This piece was created with pen, ink, watercolor paint, and pencil on 8.5" x 11" cold-press watercolor paper.  Stray ink markings appear along outer border of the piece, outside of the painted image.  Pristine condition.
